Welcome to the web site for Silkworm (1987-2005).

Oh... I guess it's been a while since I wrote anything here. I knew it'd been a while, but shit! that's almost two months, a month and a half anyway.
So my hand's all better. You probably figured as much, I mean, that sort of thing can only last so long. It lasted about two days, my hand was the hand of a hog for two days, and then it went away as quickly as it came. I felt so much better without the swelling. I felt so good that I packed up all my things and moved to Chicago, and that's where I am now - Chicago. Nothing else has changed much, really - I got a new place, but it's got all the same shit in it, so it's basically the same place. I got a new job, but a job's a job, you know? Everything is JUST EXACTLY THE SAME AS IT WAS BEFORE.
That's kind of a lie. Chicago is a remarkable town. I've hardly even walked around it, still it's remarkable. It's got culture! It's got culture like nobody's business. And can I think of something interesting to say about it? NO!!!! No I cannot. But I hardly live here, you know? I still don't know what the hell I'm doing here, why I've put myself through all this moving & all. I dunno.
There is at least one reason, though - and that's because there are other people here who I am actually in a rock band with! Yeah! Cool, huh? You probably knew that. But still, right on! And to celebrate this remarkable coincidence, we're playing a rock show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Friday November 30th - that's coming up pretty quick, you know. It's at the Cactus Club, this little club on the corner at 2496 South Wentworth. We're playing with Sixto, right? Sixto? Which I'm excited about. But what's not to get excited about? We've started making a record, most of which sounds just, oh, just like great; I've got a new place, and a downstairs neighbor with thunderous footsteps and a massive herd of tiny yapping creatures; my new place somehow fit everything that I used to keep in an entire house, and it doesn't look so bad. What else to do but swear like a sailor! FUCK!
I'm writing this with my right hand swollen up like a dead goat I saw washed up on a beach once. I got stung by a wasp yesterday, or a hornet I guess it was, on my knee and on my thumb and then it left the fucking stinger in my wrist and it is gruesome!
So this is kind of getting in the way of my packing up all my shit to get ready to put it in a truck and send it all to Chicago, which I've got to do because I start work there on the 22nd, working at Shure where Tim works. Fucked up, huh? We've been basically a Chicago band for about a year now, & as of the middle of October we'll be really and truly a Chicago band. I'm pretty excited about it, not just for the rock but also, you know, I've lived in Seattle all my life, right? Isn't it about time I pushed my boundaries a little bit? I've had it with save livin'!
So that's the story. I've got a lump of cottage cheese for a right hand, & lots of work to do. I'll keep you posted with developments. We're still playing a show in Chicago with Kinski on October 12th, & I think we're now going to try to make a record at the end of October... lots of action, lots of action. I hope you're all doing well.
So we didn't make a record this weekend. Everything's been on hold for about a week now; I'm sure you all know the feeling. We're still playing in Chicago on the 12th, as far as I know.
If you see anyone harassing a middle-eastern-looking person, you should kick the harasser in the head & then give them a talking-to.
I've been getting all my news & talk radio from NPR. Now and then it occurs to me how sheltered this keeps me from the "real" attitudes in the U.S. Everyone seems so coherent & relatively rational.
Actually, I don't have too much to say. Be strong & kick the racists.
I think everything's working now... well, that's not true, there aren't any pictures yet. There will be soon.
Such a nice day in Seattle. Here, let me open the window -
Okay. Out late last night, and really a little too drunk, but I swear I'm going to get out into this day. I've got to find my car, I know that much. Last night I dreamed of a huge flying spider/insect that builta moving web in my living room which caught moths and tiny birds... too much. I lost my job about a month ago, voluntary layoffs, so I've had lots of time to lie around trying to remember my dreams. Sometimes this takes all day, well into the next night. That I'm sitting upright, that I can remember how to type, that I have any will left at all is something of a miracle.
Not really. But I am currently jobless. Andy's jobless, too, at least until the middle of this month. Tim's got a job. I may have a job soon, I dunno. I've got a few ideas. If anyone else has any ideas, please let me know.
So - what have we done? Not a ton; but we did work out some new songs, and I swear to you, they sound good. Matt came out from Boston and played piano, and the whole thing, the whole package sounded good. We were all kind of shocked! So we booked some studio time in mid-September, we're all gathering in Chicago & we'll try yet again to make a hit record. I think we're playing a show there, too, in October - on the 12th? With Kinski. So you should all migrate to Chicago for it, you've got about a month to plan & a week to travel. That is all you will need.
Is that enough? It's not much, but it's something. I'll see if I can fix the pictures page, but not before I get out in the sunshine. Summer's nearly over! Get with it!
I'm too tired to write anything, really - but I gotta say I am excited that this site is working again. You know what happened? I started getting hacked!! Hacked!! Like in those teenage movies, like in the newspapers! It appeared to be coming from Romania - but now I know that appearances are deceiving! They mean nothing!
So I found some other company to host the site for me. I was so tired, so very tired of being hacked! Then guess what happens? Two days go by, and this same company starts getting hacked - through me! I swear I did not do it, I did nothing! But someone was very excited about getting my goat, and boy! They got my goat!
So I'll write more stuff about the band here in a little bit. Things are still pretty slow, but we're all doing fairly well and there actually are a few things to tell. But it's late and I'm tired, you know?
I'm sure you do.
