I've updated the journal. We've finished our record. I've posted some new photographs.

We do have some shows coming up - soon, actually, shit! Well, not totally soon. Pretty soon. We're playing Madison on the 22nd of February, Minneapolis on the 23rd. Mineapolis is, I'm pretty sure, at 7th Street, Madison is at some festival or something. No! Madison is at some bar! I think it's called the Annex. I'll add a note when I actually know what I'm talking about. I do think these things I've said are correct.

In March we're playing in Chicago and in Indianapolis, in April we're playing at All Tomorrow's Parties, and... and... and then sometime after that we'll put out a new record, and maybe play some more shows.

Again, more news when I'm more willing to make concrete statements.

It seems like every time I pay any attention to this page it's suddenly been two months since I last wrote anything. That's about how long it's been... well, no, no, it's been less than that. At any rate, it seems like ages, and it's about time that I write, if for no other reason than to tell you about the two shows we're playing next weekend, both shows in Ohio, the first, on Friday, in Toledo, the second, on Saturday, in Cleveland. To make it official:

Silkworm with Ralph Phillips Band and Neuman
Bottle Rocket Bar
513 Jefferson
Toledo, Ohio
Friday, January 11th

Silkworm (with OKGO? I think? It looks that way, anyhow... I know of them because they do the theme music for what's-her-name's show on NPR)
Grog Shoppe
1765 Coventry Road
Cleveland, Ohio
Saturday, January 12th

That's all I know. If I'm wrong, I'll change it before the weekend. I hope you're all well. I went back to Seattle for Christmas, & have been going through withdrawals, you know - mountains, trees, Mom.... But I'm feeling a little more stable now. We'll be hopefully finishing up a record the last week of this month, oh just cross your fingers and hope for the best. What more can you do?

Don't forget to go to the show in Milwaukee tonight. I myself am planning to attend. Cactus Club, 2496 S. Wentworth, 10:00 or so. Have they started that Muskegon-to-Milwaukee ferry service yet?

Oh... I guess it's been a while since I wrote anything here. I knew it'd been a while, but shit! that's almost two months, a month and a half anyway.

So my hand's all better. You probably figured as much, I mean, that sort of thing can only last so long. It lasted about two days, my hand was the hand of a hog for two days, and then it went away as quickly as it came. I felt so much better without the swelling. I felt so good that I packed up all my things and moved to Chicago, and that's where I am now - Chicago. Nothing else has changed much, really - I got a new place, but it's got all the same shit in it, so it's basically the same place. I got a new job, but a job's a job, you know? Everything is JUST EXACTLY THE SAME AS IT WAS BEFORE.

That's kind of a lie. Chicago is a remarkable town. I've hardly even walked around it, still it's remarkable. It's got culture! It's got culture like nobody's business. And can I think of something interesting to say about it? NO!!!! No I cannot. But I hardly live here, you know? I still don't know what the hell I'm doing here, why I've put myself through all this moving & all. I dunno.

There is at least one reason, though - and that's because there are other people here who I am actually in a rock band with! Yeah! Cool, huh? You probably knew that. But still, right on! And to celebrate this remarkable coincidence, we're playing a rock show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Friday November 30th - that's coming up pretty quick, you know. It's at the Cactus Club, this little club on the corner at 2496 South Wentworth. We're playing with Sixto, right? Sixto? Which I'm excited about. But what's not to get excited about? We've started making a record, most of which sounds just, oh, just like great; I've got a new place, and a downstairs neighbor with thunderous footsteps and a massive herd of tiny yapping creatures; my new place somehow fit everything that I used to keep in an entire house, and it doesn't look so bad. What else to do but swear like a sailor! FUCK!

I'm writing this with my right hand swollen up like a dead goat I saw washed up on a beach once. I got stung by a wasp yesterday, or a hornet I guess it was, on my knee and on my thumb and then it left the fucking stinger in my wrist and it is gruesome!

So this is kind of getting in the way of my packing up all my shit to get ready to put it in a truck and send it all to Chicago, which I've got to do because I start work there on the 22nd, working at Shure where Tim works. Fucked up, huh? We've been basically a Chicago band for about a year now, & as of the middle of October we'll be really and truly a Chicago band. I'm pretty excited about it, not just for the rock but also, you know, I've lived in Seattle all my life, right? Isn't it about time I pushed my boundaries a little bit? I've had it with save livin'!

So that's the story. I've got a lump of cottage cheese for a right hand, & lots of work to do. I'll keep you posted with developments. We're still playing a show in Chicago with Kinski on October 12th, & I think we're now going to try to make a record at the end of October... lots of action, lots of action. I hope you're all doing well.
