I'm just squawking myself, of course. But I don't really understand your friend's argument -- if the solutions are non-military how does the DOD end up with more money because of climate change? This is an administration that consistently refuses to acknowledge the existence of any problem that doesn't have a military "solution". As for the dire predictions, you're right, that does sound kind of "sexed up". On the other hand, while I know jack-shit about science, my understanding is that the threat of climate change has been accepted for quite awhile by the great majority of the scientific community, especially that portion of the scientific community that doesn't get paid to think otherwise. Yet our president can still speak about how the jury is still out on this. Over the past few years, I've learned that anytime Bush makes an assertion, the opposite of that assertion is probably the reality. So I don't really know what level of fear is proper.
