i don't know about guts, but i think my household would have to clear 200K minimum to want to live there

but i am old and set in my ways

and i love chicago, illinois

i am fond of nyc, and i think the oppressive qualities of it are greatly dependent on where you live, as tca suggests. astoria is a lovely place w/o making too big a deal of itself. but you are only ever going to have so much room to maneuver. this has an impact on me and my feelings about dwelling there.

that said, if you are in a field which puts nyc in the center of the universe--visual art, for ex.--then maybe you owe it some serious consideration
