RE: semi-official word on michael
I just wanted to add that I remember with particular fondness a show in New York (I think it was opening for Pavement at Roseland), when Michael proudly announced to the audience that he had a serious case of diarrhea. Although i often had diarrhea before I played shows, I would never have been that open about it.
I have been, like many, a moderately obsessed Silkworm fan since my first introduction to their music in college. I carried around a couple of songs from L'Ajre on an old tape that someone made for me, but never could find the album itself anywhere. Then, in grad school, I met a guy named Fritz, and once when we were talking, we ended up talking about how he went to school with Michael. I told him about how I was looking for that record, and not a month later, courtesy of Michael, I had a brand new tape copy of L'Ajre and a whole Mekons record on the flip. That's the personal touch of Michael and Silkworm.
The last Silkworm show I went to, I went to alone, and the whole thing was so transcendent that I actually wept. So much good music, so much energy and passion and humor and Michael was the beating heart in so many ways. What a loss for this world. Some other world's gain.
